Silvio Sbarigia remembers Enrico Longinotti

I knew Enrico Longinotti since more than thirty years; he fought long time against a terrible disease. He was a pleasant and very nice person, a lively man as table as far from table. Enrico was a very technical and expert player, a researching ‘theorist’ on perfection and the clever coup, bringing about exasperating some playing situations. Mainly he was a passionate player: He loved playing and talking about bridge, I have memory of many chats we had: Very long chats, almost endless. ‘Silvio’ he said, ‘watch this hand…’.

One of the lost times we met was in the trials to Seniores European Championship of Ostende: Enrico and his partner Giovanni Maci qualified, the Italian National Team won the bronze. Enrico left the Bridge as winner: He exited the scene with a medal. That were his last competition, then the evil bended him irremediably and forced him to leave the table. I’m sure that in the disease what more grieved him was no longer playing and, moreover, no longer talking of the ‘impossible hand’.
