Spingold Cup2013 Spingold Knock-Out Teams. Round of 16. The comeback of Bob Hamman. 66-54 is the result by which Bob Hamman, (with Sam Lev, Brian Glubok, Gary Cohler, and Billy Cohen) defeated Diamond (John Diamond, Brian Platnick, Eric Greco, Geoff Hampson). Hamman seeded 14th, Diamond 3rd, but it cannot be said “surprising”, of course.

The yesterday’s heroes, Dunitz – they defeated Monaco – didn’t repeat the feat: they lost 98-156 against Schermer. A great tourney, theirs; they deserve to be quoted again: Mitch Dunitz, Ed Davis, Jill Levin, Jenny Wolpert, Howard Weinstein, and Ross Grabel.

Peterkin also, the fine news of this Spingold, has had to lower the flag against Gromov 86-226.

The results:

Schermer-Dunitz 156-98

Hamman-Diamond 66-54

Lynch-Eklebad 129-84

Bridge 24-Chablis 194-89

Nickell-Assael 164-159

Schwartz-Fleisher 131-128

Gromov-Peterkin 226-86

Grue-Cayne 137-92

The surprise of the day was the elimination of Fleisher, USA2 in Bermuda Bowl; but Schwartz wasn’t any weak: Richard Schwartz, Allan Graves, Boye Brogeland, Espen Lindqvist, Lotan Fisher, Ron Schwartz.

With Cayne, has gone another Italian pair: Lauria-Versace. The last still running is Bocchi-Madala with Gromov.

Quarterfinals pairing:

Schermer-Grue

Nickell-Bridge24

Hamman-Gromov

Schwartz-Lynch.

There are only two women remaining in Spingold: Sabine Auken con Schermer and Carolyn Lynch. At start the women were thirty-five, one tenth of the men (365). If we add the women who were playing the Margaret Wagar, running contemporarily, only are still 110 women overall, in both events; still less than one third of the men, who could play only one.
