Team Herbst (Ilan and Ophir Herbst, Michael Barel-Yaniv Zack) has won the national team championships of Israel. In a final of 56 boards Herbst defeated yesterday the squad Fisher-Schwartz, Padon-Gilad with the smallest of margins: 107 to 106. Three players (not Gilad) of the runners-up are members of the highly succesfull Israeli junior team.
Herbst survived due to a cary-over of 14 IMPs in it’s favour. The results of the semi-finals were: Herbst v. Bareket (with Ginossar-Pachtman) 126-98 and Fisher v. Birman 111-83.
The Israeli open team trials for the 2012 European Championhips will be decided in two weekends (in January and in March). Team Herbst will participate in these trials with the same team as in Veldhoven:Ilan and Ophir Herbst, Barel-Zack and Pachtman.
