On the 4h of June, the Italian Federation (FIGB) announced that the EBL allowed to cancel all the players originally registered for the Mixed Teams in the European Championships in Funchal, replacing them with an entirely new team.
Neapolitan Club asked to the EBL President Jan Kamras to explain why EBL allows such last minute substitution, although the deadline had already passed.
Mr Kamras answered: “The substitution of all members of the Italian Mixed Team was authorized under exceptional circumstances, to fulfill the superior interest of ensuring that the event would be run under the best possible conditions of ethics and sportsmanship. The reasons which led to the substitution, shared and appreciated by FIGB, its Mixed Team and the EBL administration, are connected to facts that came to light after the expiration of the deadline for submitting the team roster. Privacy concerns are, at the moment, preventing us from disclosing further details”.
