In his latest video- interview, posted in the ALT NEWCO 2 Bulletin, Jan van Cleeff interviewed Naren Gupta.
During the interview Gupta speaks about Huub Bertens Case:
“I’ll be very honest with you Jan: Hubb is a great player. I learnt a lot from him. He’s also playing to win like Zia, like Debbie Rosenberg. But they’re all great players. I think Hubb is an absolutely exceptional player, in my opinion, an exceptional player for an amateur like me.
And I learnt a lot from him, and I will say I don’t know whether he cheated. I have no idea. I could not really opine on that. I have gone over all the hands. I don’t see any hands where I have an obvious reason to believe he was cheating.
But one thing I would say is that he’s one of the most honourable, honest people, in my my dealings with him. So it saddens me. I think I think what has happened is very bad for bridge, very, very bad for bridge, in my opinion. But that’s a personal opinion.
My two daughters, who are very brilliant, who might play bridge, they say, well, open the front page of any of your sites. And all they talk about is cheating. You talk about the beauty of the game and everybody in the world is talking about cheating. Yes, they’re cheating in everything in life, I believe that. In my business, there’s a lot of cheating, but that’s not what motivates me every day. It motivates all the great companies and the great entrepreneurs and the great leaders we are creating. So it really saddens me. I can’t opine on is this. I have no idea. I don’t think so. I believe everybody’s a good person in my life. That’s my philosophy of life, Jan: I give everybody an A or A plus, and I’ll continue to do that till proven otherwise beyond any doubt.”
