New Delhi HCL International Bridge Championship:19th to 23rd October 2016. This tournament was born in 2003 thanks to Mrs Kiram and her husband Mr Shiv Nadar, the founder of Hindustan Computers Limited (HCL); Mrs Kiram is one of the strongest Asian players. The venue will be the JW Marriott Hotel at New Delhi Aerocity.
The bulletin of the first edition (18th December 2003), warmly welcomed the “Ladies, Gentlemen and dear Bridge Friends…”; since then, the tourney became greater and greater. Nowadays there are five events: the Team Gold Event, the Team Silver Event, and three pair tourneys.
The prizes are amazing. The total for the five tourneys is 12.000.000 Indian rupees, that is 180.000 dollars; in terms of prizes, the New Delhi HCL is the second in the world; it, however, becomes the first in terms of first prize to entry fee ratio: for example, in the Gold event this ratio is 250; 120 dollars per team to play, 30.000 dollars to winners. So low the entry, so happy the winners means that sponsors actually love bridge and want all to participate.
