Norberto Bocchi’s interviews (7): Bas Drijver

Last week the Dutch star Bas Drjver was on holidays in Barcelona (Spain) with his wife. So Norberto Bocchi took the opportunity to realize this short interview with him. No surprise Bas said the greatest joy came defeating Italy at 2011 Bermuda Bowl in Holland.

Norberto Bocchi:  How have you been captured by bridge?

Bas Drijver: My parents play the game and taught it to my 2 brothers and me.

NB: Which system do you play with your partner?

BD: Pretty natural Dutch doubleton [1] with a lot of special agreements after intervention.

NB:  How would you describe your bridge style?

BD: Aggressive and boring.

NB: Which is the first bridge book you read?

BD: “Test Your Elimination Play” by Hugh Kelsey.

*

NB: Is there a player who influenced your game?

BD: I learned a lot from Simon de Wijs, whom I played with when I was still learning the game.

NB: Which is the best quality a partner can have?

BD: Being a good friend away from the bridge table.

*

NB: Which is your favourite tournament?

BD: Bermuda Bowl

NB:  What is your most memorable happy moment at the bridge table?

BD: Beating Italy in semifinal in Netherlands 2011.

NB: Apart from your regular partner, who would you like to play with in an important tournament?

BD: Agustin Madala.

*

NB:  Which teammates would you like to have?

BD: Meckwell or Bocchi-Madala.

*

NB: Is there anything you do to avoid bad luck at the bridge table?

BD: Nope.

NB:  What is your favourite music?

BD: Black eyed Peas.

NB: Apart from bridge books, which authors do you enjoy reading?

BD: Dan Brown.

NB:  Are you a sports fan, e.g. football?

BD: Yes, I love watching tennis, soccer and lately I started appreciating American football.

NB: Which is your favourite actor and actress?

BD: Al Pacino and Angelina Jolie.

*

NB: What do you do in your spare time when you are not playing bridge?

BD: I take care of my kids and play (other) sports.
