“Riga Invites to Jurmala” – Wednesday evening Marko Tenn together with Aivar Tammel from Estonia won the Invitational Pairs Tournament in Jurmala, Latvia.
24 pairs played 7 rounds (4 boards in the round) and Estonians with 55 IMPs were the best, second and 3rd place went to Russian players: Aris Mukhortov and Viktor Makarov finished second with 40 IMPs, Tatiana Nokhaeva and Pavel Gomerov finished third with 35 IMPs.
Most interesting board was No 8:
As you can see, 7♣ is the best contract and also 7♥ and 7NT could be made, if you drop ♥Q. But it is almost impossible, if North makes a pre-emptive 3♦ overcall. So just 3 pairs found 7♣ and 3 pairs found 7NT (all down one). Tenn-Tammel bid 6♣ and made it with an overtrick for a 2 IMP pick-up.
