Lady Milne Trophy: Ireland toward her first victory

leggi in italiano »

This is the score after yesterday night third match and before today’s last two: Scotland 58, Ireland 57, England 49, Wales 39, NIBU 32, Northern Ireland 29. NIBU is the North Ireland Bridge Union, the sixt team – and the second of the guest Country – added, as in Camrose Trophy, to avoid the by.

Wales, NIBU and Northern Ireland haven’t anymore hope to win. Scotland can, they are strong. Ireland had never won before: is this their time? England is not so far from the top, just looks difficult to rescue over two teams. In order to better understand the situation, let’s write the score with other numbers. The numbers sometimes are as eloquent as Paolo’s words on his Francesca:

“Love, that exempts no one beloved from loving…” (Dante Alighieri, Inferno V, 103. Translated by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow).

Scotland 58 Has to play against England + Wales, which have a total of 88

Ireland 57 Against NIBU + Northern Ireland, 61

England 49 Against Scotland + NIBU, 90

By Dante’s words, Ireland is exempted to face the two strongest adversaries. They have defeated England (21-9), and were defeated by Scotland (11-19), but this happened yesterday: in their future aren’t teams running for the victory. Our forecast is for Ireland.
