A Pink Club: For Women Only

The Italian women’s team team took 9th place at 2012 EC in Dublin, Ireland and as a consequence missed the qualification for the 2013Venice Cup in Bali. Recently the Italian Bridge Federation (FIGB) has started a new project dedicated to women’s bridge and to re-design the national department for Women.

This is a two-year project and consists in the creation of a club, “Club Rosa” (Pink Club), reserved to sixteen pairs of women. The national team which will compete in the 2014 European Bridge Championships will come out of this group.

Moreover, the first six pairs will represent Italy in the next European OPEN Championships in Ostend, under the names “Italy A” and “Italy B”, which will be sponsored by the FIGB.

The trials for access to the Club Rosa consisted of two stages: the initial one took place from 18 to 20 January 2013 and the last one from 14 to 17 February 2013.

These are the sixteen pairs qualified:

Three players come from girls category: Margherita Chavarria, Giorgia Botta and Margherita Costa.

The final trials (a three days tournament) for EBL European Championship, reserved to the sixteen pairs of Club Rosa, will be completed by April 2014.

So far the sixteen pairs belonging to the Club Rosa will take part to a regular training under the supervision of the Italian federation.
