In the final match, against France, Roger Trezel doubled your 7♠. It was makeable, but Guglielmo Siniscalco, then your partner, switched to 7NT, also doubled but no longer makeable: the heart control was by void, and a six heart trick parade marched undisturbed trough the table.  1. Autocontrollo di ghiaccio. L’Official Encyclopedia della ACBL (American Contract Bridge League), scrive di lei: “…Famoso per il suo atteggiamento calmo e mai scomposto, apparentemente immune al nervosismo che affligge molti campioni…”. Infatti ai campionati europei di Stoccolma, nel 1956, fu questa sua calma che diede la vittoria all’Italia. In finale contro la Francia, Roger Trezel contrò un 7♠. Era fattibile ma Guglielmo Siniscalco, il suo compagno di allora, deviò a 7NT, anche contrate ma non fattibili: il controllo a cuori era di vuoto, e una colonna di sei prese a cuori marciò indisturbata sul tavolo. Lei proseguì a giocare “…Placidamente…e questa prova di ottimo carattere permise a Siniscalco di riprendersi…” (Carl’Alberto Perroux – “Il Blue Team nella storia del Bridge”, pag. 68. Mursia 1973). SILVIO SBARIGIA is a pharmacist; he was born in Rome and lives there. He has won the European championship in 1975 with legendary Blue Team, runner up at 1974’s and at Olympic games of 1976.  Sbarigia is member of Neapolitan Club Technical Commettee.
