The finals of the first edition of the JICL was played between team Prague 2 and team Zagreb. Team Zagreb took a 23 IMPS lead in the first half. On the first four boards of the second half team Prague 2 managed to overtake team Zagreb. Their lead, however, amounted to a modest 1 IMP. On the last seven boards team Zagreb recovered, regained the lead, and won the match.

As announced earlier, the winners of this first edition get a change to play against a top team. So the next challenge for team Zagreb is to defeat a team consisting of Fred Gitelman, Brad Moss, Joe Grue and Curtis Cheek (with many thanks to Valerie Westheimer). This match will be played end April / early May (I’ll keep you posted about exact day/time).
As the period April – June provides lots of distractions such as school exams 😉 we will play the second edition of the JICL as an alternative and smaller teams competition. This JICL Spring Competition is based on groups of 6 teams and will take 7 weeks max. The first five weeks are allocated to round robins in groups of six. These will be followed by two knock out rounds (semi finals and finals). The winners of this 2nd edition will classify for the top-12 league in the third edition (again a full edition) starting in October.
Play for the Spring edition will start 21st of April. New and old teams can register until 12th April latest (all teams who want to participate need to register, but pls register only if you can commit to play 7 weeks). After registration and confirmation, captains will get an email about the pairings around the 14th of April.
