The 42nd Bermuda Bowl, or the World Open Team Championship, is starting today in Chennai, India; it will end on 10th October. Alongside the Bermuda Bowl are running the Venice Cup, that is the Women World Championship, and the Senior Bowl, also called D’Orsi Bowl. The latter is named after the late Ernesto D’Orsi, a Brazilian past president of the World Bridge Federation (WBF). Bermuda Bowl and Venice Cup took their names after the places where first they were played: 1950 in Bermuda and 1974 in Venice.

The Venue is the ITC Grand Chola Hotel; ITC stands for Imperial Tobacco Company of India, as the firm was called when established in 1910. The ITC Limited since 1970s diversified in non tobacco products, as hotels, for example. The hotel is modern, but it is built in South Temple Indian or Dravida Style, with pyramidal towers and conspicuous looking.

The sponsor is the HCL Technologies Limited; HCL stands for Hindustan Computer Limited. It is one of the greatest company in the world; it offers all services and technologies that modern industries and companies need.

The last Bermuda Bowl, 2013 in Bali, was won by Italy, which defeated Monaco in final. Neither Italy nor Monaco will play the Chennai’s Bermuda Bowl. Italy didn’t qualify in the zone tourney, which was the 2014’s European Open Championship; there were six places to go, they got only fourteenth. Monaco placed second, but has withdrawn few days ago; other two European teams have also withdrawn the same days: Israel, the winner, and Germany, placed sixth. (Further details: Boye’s War » )
