leggi in italiano >>

The Official Encyclopedia of Bridge is published by the ACBL (American Contract Bridge League). It is updated every 7-9 years. The first edition was in 1964, if we don’t count the encyclopedia published in 1935 by Bridge World. The latest edition is from 2001  and now  the ACBL is in the process of producing the 7th Edition.

A thousand pages in a large volume, 25000 entries, hundreds of experts explain the essentials of all bidding and playing techniques, whether declarer play or defense. A thousand pages explain systems and conventions, they tell us the history of Bridge, they suggest books, they list rules and give brief biographies of the people who played important roles.

The latest edition published in 2001  is edited by Alan Truscott, and Henry and Dorothy Francis:   Official Encyclopedia of Contract Bridge, 826 pages plus 30 of bibliography, ACBL 2001. ISBN 0-943855-44-6

P.S. The ACBL is in the process of producing the 7th Edition of the Official Encyclopedia of Bridge. In particular they lack information about the younger generations. If you are interested in being included, please submit biographical information to Tracey Yarbro: tracey.yarbro@acbl.org . You have until June 1, 2011 to submit a biography. After this date no new entries will be accepted.
