The Netheralands, with Sjoert Brink, Berend Van De Bos, Sebastiaan Drijver, Jiris Van Lankveld, and Herman Drenkelford won the Slava Memorial Cup, the Russian event in memory of Slava Grinuk, held at Danilovskaya Hotel in Moscow. They defeated in final Sabine Auken, Roy Welland, Juan Carlos Ventin, Dragan Markovich and Mustafa Cem Tokay. The qualification round robin had been won by the same Dutch over Auken.
The third place went to Monaco (Pierre Zimmermann, Frank Multon, Geir Helgemo, Tor Helness, Fulvio Fantoni, Claudio Nunes), that defeated Real (Alexander Dubinin, Andrey Gromov, Evgeny Gladysh, Mikhail Krasnosselski, Alejandro Bianchedi).
The Sabine Auken’s Team was leading the final by 54-19 after the first out of four fourteen board stanza, but after The Netherlands started at full blast, getting until -11 after the third stanza and ending with a resonant 48-2 in the last one.
