On September 21, President DBV Mr Ulrich Wenning and Vice-President Sports DBV Dr. Josef Harsanyi sent a letter to the President of World Bridge Federation (WBF) and to the President of European Bridge League (EBL):
Dear President,
The German Bridge Federation (DBV) received the shocking news about Alexander Smirnov’s and Josef Piekarek’s cheating.
We hereby inform you:
a. The DBV withdraws its team from the participation at the Bermuda Bowl 2015.
b. The DBV withdraws from all EBL Championships in year 2015, where the cheating of our player could have an influence on qualification.
c. The Disciplinary Court of DBV starts a process to investigate and judge the actions of the named players.
d. The DBV will fully cooperate with the EBL and WBF if these organizations start an investigation or process in this case.
We hope for the support from all NBOs and all umbrella organizations in our efforts to clean and renew our sport.
