The Italian Bridge Federation (FIGB) advertised a competition to designate the Open and Women teams that will represent Italy at the 2012 World Mind Sports Games. The second stage of Italian trials has been completed. The event took place 19 to 22 January 2012 in Salsomaggiore (Parma). The first two teams will compete next weekend (January 27-29) in a ko match of 120 hands.

Associato Allegra Lavazza and Zaleski Bridge Breno are the two finalists in Open category; Br. Laveno Mombello Bernasconi and Genova Bridge Martellini in Women category.

The first phase of the selection was held in Salsomaggiore (Parma) 9 to 12 June 2011. In that first phase the team Lavazza Associato Allegra (with Maria Teresa Lavazza,  Bocchi, Duboin, Ferraro, Madala, Sementa) and the team Zaleski Bridge Breno (with Romain Zaleski,  Giubilo, Versace, Lauria, D’Avossa, Intonti) did not participate: In fact both received a wild card giving them direct access to the second stage of competition.

This is the last event in which we see the pair Lauria-Versace and Giubilo play for the sponsor Romain Zaleski: In fact Lorenzo Lauria, Alfredo Versace and Valerio Giubilo have just signed a long term contract with Francesco Angelini.

The 2012 World Mind Sports Games will be held in August: The host has not been announced yet.
