Juan-Les-Pins: Patton 2012. Second day. The comeback of Italians. The Major Charles Lee Patton (1851-1941) was one of the originators of the Takeout Double and of the Patton Movement for Teams of four. Invented in the times of Whist, the Patton movement allows all the teams to play each other for an even number of teams without the “phantom table”, that was a table where the opponents rested a round gossiping. (Don’t mistake our Major Charles Lee Patton for the General George S. Patton, both American.)
At Juan Les Pins there are now forty-four teams in the Patton. After the second day, Markovicz is leading (Markowicz, Klukowski, Russyan, Zeligman, 231 VP). Trailed only by two Imp there are the Italians of Lavazza (Maria Teresa Lavazza playing with Duboin, and Bocchi with Ferraro, the winner of the mixed pair). In third position at -10 comes another strong Italian team, from Bologna and Modena: Bonori (Marisa and Paolo Bonori, Gavelli, Caiti, Pattacini). In fourth position there is Monaco, with Fantoni, Nunes, Allavena, Nathalie Frey, Michaela Baunt (-11). Fifth is White House at -16, with Sabine Auken, Welland, Hermans, Drenkelford.
