IBF – Special Ethics Committee: Recap

Lotan Fisher and Ron SchwartzOn August 2015,  the Israel Bridge Federation (IBF) created a Special Ethics Committee (SEC) in order to examine the various allegations of irregularities spread by Internet against the Israeli pair Fisher – Schwartz.

This Special Ethics Committee is headed by David Forer, current head of the IBF’s court: a respected lawyer and a bridge expert as well. Other members are: Asher Axelrod, Modi Kenigsberg, Eitan Levy, Adrian Schwartz. The coordinator of the Committee  is Mrs. Oryah Meir – CEO of the Israel Bridge Federation.

The first hearing of SEC (held on Monday, August 31, 2015) was attended by representive of IBF and Lotan Fisher and Ron Schwartz, represented by Adv. Dror Arad-Ayalon, former head of the ethics committee of the Israeli Bar Association.

During that hearing Fisher and  Schwartz, although they deny categorically every allegations, announced the decision not to play together until the conclusion of the proceedings by the SEC. There are two main allegations against Lotan Fisher and Ron Schwartz:

a) The first allegation is that  Fisher and Schwartz signaled their preferred suit for the opening lead by the placement of the board on the table.

b) The second allegation is that Fisher and Schwartz passed illegal information between them by coughing.

The files called “Israeli Doctors”, which relate to the allegation of conveying information through coughing, were drafted by Amir Levin, Bar Tarnovsky and Eldad Ginossar.  A document detailing a stitistical analysis of the coughing was drafted by Ofir Reshef.

To reject the allegations, Lotan Fisher and Ron Schwartz submitted a long response document and they requested this document shall not be forwarded to anyone except the members of the Committee, until the oral hearing before the Committee.

The full text of the Fisher – Schwartz document (400 pages – about 30 pages of slideshows with boards and movies) will be published in English during the oral hearings.

The oral hearings were scheduled for:  December 20, 2015;  January 3, 2016;  January 5, 2016.

These hearings have been canceled and a new oral hearing is scheduled for January 21, 2016.
