Girls grab gold at 2012 Italian Under-26 Championships

The Under 26 Pairs and Teams Championships took place in Bologna from the 5th to the 7th of April. In the teams competition, a team from Rome won, with Margherita Chavarria, Flavia Lanzuisi Giorgia Botta and Michela Salvato. Margherita and Giorgia came to know bridge through their parents since they were very young. Flavia started playing at Primo Levi high school in Rome with professor Daniela Cervone. Michela is a third-year student at Eur Bridge Club in Rome and her teacher is Mario Guarino, gold medallist in the Italian Pairs Championships.

In second place two girls: Federica Buttò from Catania and Margherita Costa from Alessandria, together with Eugenio Mistretta, Alessandro Gandoglia and Gabriele Zanasi. In third place, Caterina Burgio, Andrea Failla, Giovanni Donati, Giacomo Percario, and Andrea Bottini.

Giovanni Donati and Giacomo Percario won the Under 26 Pairs Championships.

Emanuela Capriata, selector and coach of the Women Under 26 National team, says: “We are really proud for our girls’ results. They won the gold medal second year in a row, and this shows their level of expertise. They deserve their results because they are constantly working hard and get along well”.
