Maria Teresa Lavazza Is Back

Posted on 27 November 2017

During the last meeting of the Italian Federal Committee, held in Milan on 25th November 2017, President Francesco Ferlazzo Natoli said to have met Maria Teresa Lavazza, who is available to lead the National Open Team.

Maria Teresa Lavazza will thus be again the non-playing captain of the Blue Team.

Lavazza, after 13 years in this role, had resigned in May 2012. After winning the World Championships in Bali (2013), players of the Lavazza Team (Norberto Bocchi, Giorgino Duboin and Agustin Madala) had decided not to represent Italy anymore. Bocchi-Madala had been asked to play for the Open in 2016, but they had again refused to participate.

The Doyenne of Coffee’s return to the Open may pave the way for her players to come back as well.
