BBO InterCity League Autumn 2011: Round of 16. The InterCity League Round Robin ended. The sixteen teams qualified to knock-out stage – four from each group – are one from each of these eight nations: Italia, Poland, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Serbia, Montenegro; two from Slovenia; six from GB (England, Ireland, two from Scotland, two from Wales). The Great Britain has qualified six of seven teams; the only eliminated is Cloonboo (Ireland), fifth in Group A by only two VPs.
Ascoli Piceno won his group, as expected, losing only the match against Nikšic (Montenegro). It must be said that the Group A was probably the most difficult: all the first six, in the past editions, usually went on to knock-out stage, and Ascoli Piceno won three of the last five edition.
In Group B there was one team of unknown strength: Wales United. They are usually very strong, but some of their players migrated to the other Welsh team (Cardiff), and to Manchester; anyway, they qualified without problems, third after Haskovo and Wroclaw, but well over the fourth place, the battlefield where Ljubljana prevailed over Skopje.
The other Wels Team, Cardiff, got the same place – third – in Group C, where in fourth place there are other strong Britons: Connacht, one of past winners.
In Group D, Manchester crashed all opponents with an amazing average: 23,3! The Group D weren’t the strongest, maybe, at any rate such a result elects Manchester as favourite to win the trophy. Scores:
