The Team Ascoli Piceno defeated the Poles of Wroclaw in the final of Intercity League. After the first half of the match, 12 boards, the result was already 62-7 for Ascoli; maybe too much: in the gap there is an unlucky slam that the Poles failed because the 4-1 trump break. In the second half of the match, however, the Polish team didn’t yield; they follow to fight courageously, winning the segment by 9 IMPs, so the overall result became 80-34 for Ascoli.

This is the fifth victory in Intercity League for the Italians of Neapolitan Club, in sixteen editions of the Trophy: no other team has won more than once. Since three editions Ascoli only have five players: the strongest pair is that of Carlo Totaro and Costel Lung; both have won several national titles and both have represented they country, Italia and Romania, in international events. The Totaro-Lung System is a unusual 2/1 game forcing without forcing No Trump, substituted by an arrangement of the Gazzilli Convention.

The other three players are Piero Millevoi, Fabio Colasante and Enrico Paolo Garrisi; they form a threesome of the same system, the Eugenio Chiaradia’s Neapolitan Club of the 1966 edition.
