Angelini’s team from Rome won the 2012 Italy Men Cup: Francesco Angelini, Leonardo Cima, Benito Garozzo, Valerio Giubilo, Lorenzo Lauria, Federico Primavera, Alfredo Versace, and Lino Bove (not playing captain).
The Italy Bridge Cup is the last event of the 2012 season. The final stage took place in the usual venue of the “Palazzo dei Congressi” in Salsomaggiore Terme (next to Parma, Italy) from the 13th to the 16th of December.
16 teams were admitted to the final stage. After the men’s team quarterfinals remain in the race: Canottieri Olona Lavazza, Breno Zaleski, Tennis Roma Lanciano, Angelini.
In the semifinal Lavazza defeated Zaleski 115 – 81 and Angelini won over Lanciano 129 – 100.
The four semifinalist teams roster includes the best Italian and World stars. In Lavazza team there were: Norberto Bocchi, Giorgio Duboin, Guido Ferraro, Fabrizio Hugony, Agustin Madala, Antonio Sementa, Francesco Saverio Vinci and Maria Teresa Lavazza (not playing captain). In Breno Zaleski team: Roman Zaleski, Mario D’Avossa, Riccardo Intonti, Massimo Lanzarotti, Andrea Manno. In Tennis Roma Lanciano: Roberto Lanciano, Bernando Biondo, Carlo Carpentieri, Giuseppe Delle Cave, Fulvio Fantoni, Mario Guarino, Franco Masoero, Claudio Nunes and Lino Bove (not playing captain). And in Angelini’s squad: Francesco Angelini, Leonardo Cima, Benito Garozzo, Valerio Giubilo, Lorenzo Lauria, Federico Primavera, Alfredo Versace, Lino Bove (not playing captain).
In the final Angelini grabbed a crushing victory defetating Lavazza for 240-95.
Lauria Versace and Giubilo won the 2010 and 2011 Italy cup with team Zaleki. Now they win again with team Angelini.
Untill 2010 Lauria-Versace have played with their sponsor and friend Francesco Angelini. But as it is well known the sensational exclusion of Fantunes from the New Blue Team in 2010 aroused much controversy in Italian bridge. As a consequence Lauria and Versace broke their historical relationship with Angelini and signed for the Polish born French financier Romain Zaleski. From January 2012 Italian stars Lorenzo Lauria and Alfredo Versace have left the team of Zaleski to rejoin again Angelini’s team for a long term contract. And Angelini rejoins again a Trophy.
Fantunes’ team (Lanciano) was troubled by a tragic episode: Carlo Carpentieri had to leave the tournament after first day because his father suddenly died. Thus, Carpentieri – Guarino, Italian open pairs reigning champions, could not play. However Lanciano Team reached third place defeating in playoff Zaleski: 99-91.
In women’s event the four semifinalist teams were Bernasconi, Massara, Nardullo, Colombo. In semifinal Bernasconi defeated Massara 124-49 and Nardullo defeated Colombo 139-55. In the final Bernasconi won over Nardullo. Third place went to Colombo.
The Italy Women Cup winners are: Cristina Golin, Gabriella Olivieri, Simonetta Paoluzi, Annalisa Rosetta, Ilaria Saccavini, Marilina Vanuzzi, Caterina Ferlazzo, Gabriella Manara and Giancarlo Bernasconi (npc).
Runners up are: Monica Aghemo, Gianna Arrigoni, Monica Buratti, Debora Campagnano, Antonella Novo, Giuliana Pederzoli and Ennio Nardullo (not playing captain).
The winners of the Men section are awarded with the Trophy Giorgio Belladonna and the winners of the Women section are awarded with the Trophy Anna Valenti.
