2012 October – News from the World

France – The third session of Division National Open (DN1) was played  October 27-28, 2012. The first four teams of the round robin stage will play semifinal and final. They are: Laffineur (Guy Laffineur, Alain Levy, Nicolas Roussel, Christian Mari, Michel and Thomas Bessis), Zimmermann (Pierre Zimmermann, Frank Multon, Fulvio Fantoni, Claudio Nunes, Tor Helness and Geir Helgemo) Rombaut (Jerome Romabaut, Pierre Franceschetti, Philippe Kasler, Nicolas Lhuisseier, Cedric Lorenzini) and Dussout (Bernanrd Doussot, David Harari, Fabien Lacroix, Michel Lamongie, Yves Lormant, Chau Pham Ngoc). The final stages will be played 26-27 January, 2013. The semifinal’s matches: Laffineur vs Doussot and Rombaut vs Zimmermann.

Lithuania –  The 2012 Vilnius Cup is underway at Radisson Blu Hotel Lietuva in Vilnius. Waldemar Sroczyński and Piotr Tuszyński from Poland won the Commercial Pairs, runners up are ex aequo Bogusław Gierulski – Jerzy Skrzypczak  and Andrey Gromov – Alexander Dubinin. Valentinas Češūnas and Aušra Dzikaitė from Lithuania won Mixed Pairs, runners up are Nelė Petrylienė and Egidijus Petryla, third place to Rita Saukliene and Mindaugas Bernotas. Commercial pairs and mixed pairs events were played Thursday, 25th of October.

Argentina – Marcelo Villegas and Walter Fornasari won the 2012 Brazilian open pairs Championships open pairs. Runners up are  Adolfo Madala and Ernesto Muzzio, in third place, the pair Klein-Pellegrini. The Brazilian open pairs championships were played on 19 and 20 of October at the Ayacucho Bridge Club in Buenos Aires.

France – The second session of Division National Open (DN1) was played  October 20-21, 2012. This event is the the highest teams competition in France. The Guy Laffineur’s team (with Alain Levy, Nicolas Roussel, Christian Mari, Michel and Thomas Bessis) has just taken a very clear lead. The other teams are: Rombaut, Doussot, Zimmermann, Cronier, Mejane, Payen, Zaleski, Pigneau, Tardy, Vinay, Fleury. The third and last session will be played October 27-28, 2012. The French Championship is held in three week-ends, with twelve teams playing each other in eleven rounds of 26 hands. The first four teams of the round robin stage will play semifinal and final: 25 to 27 January, 2013.

The SportAccord World Mind Games online tournament started in September and will go on till the end of October. One winner will be selected for each sport and will be invited for a one week journey to attend and watch the 2012 SportAccord World Mind Games in Beijing (travel and accommodation included). He will also have the chance to play against some of the world’s best worldwide players of his sport. Online winners will also receive a commemorative medal and a certificate at the closing ceremony of the event. 2 Samsung tablets and 2 Swatch watches will be awarded in each sport to more players depending on their performance. All the players are welcome to play on the participating bridge platforms: BBO, FUN BRIDGE, OURGAMES.

Beijing (China) – Poland (Balicki-Zmudzinski and Buras-Narkiewicz) has won the the 2012 “Sunchime Fund Cup” International Bridge Elite Tournament. The event was held in Beijing from 1th to 4th of October. Monaco (Helgemo-Helness, Fantoni-Nunes) were the runners-up. Team USA took third place where Beijing Evertrust and The Netherlands shared 4th and 5th place. The butler ranking was won by Cheek and Delmonte from USA.

Hamilton (New Zeland) – Michael Whibley and Lian Milne won the New Zealand Pairs title at the New Zealand National Bridge Congress. The event took place at the Kingsgate Hotel in Hamilton (NZ) from 29 Sep to 6 Oct. The second place went to Ashley Bach & Nathan van Jole. The defending title-holders Pat Carter & Tom Jacob finished third. In the open team event the title went to GeO Tislevoll’s squad with Peter Newell, Mike Cornell, Michael Ware, Ashley Bach and Martin Reid. Runners up are Alan Grant, Liam Milne, Michael Whibley and Anthony Ker.
