2012 Memphis – Vanderbilt Cup: Round of 64 results

leggi in italiano »

The first surprise of Tuesday has been the elimination of the number 11, Mahaffey, defeated from the 54th, Consus Red. Mahaffey had two Polish giants as Gawrys and Pszczola, but in opponent’s team all were Polish: Piotr Zak, Jerzy Zaremba, Jaroslaw Cieslak, Grzegorz Lewaciak, Waldemar Frukacz. It needs to remember that lower is the seeding number, higher is the theoretical strength of the team. Another surprise is the defeat of the n° 15 Onstott, with Casen-Krekorian, against the 53 Bloom (Steve and Betty Bloom, John Zilic, Jeffrey Juster).

Other “inversions”, that is the higher seeding numbers that wins against the lower ones, are the default of Rose Meltzer (17th), against Venkatesh (48th); Reese Milner (18th), against Allan Falk (47th); Mary Ann Berg (19th), against Doug Dub (46th).

The victory of Joel (only 38th), over Zach Brescoll (27th), is not so surprising, after all: the Geeske Joel’s team-mates have names as Tobi Sokolow, Jill Meyers, Janice Seamon-Molson, Benedicte Cronier, Sylvie Willard.

In the round of 32, today, already starts great challenges. There are at least three matches to follow: Jacobs-Lall, with the Italians Bocchi-Madala; Joel-Lynch: Carolyn Lynch’s players are Mike Passell, Cezary Balicki, Adam Zmudzinski, Andrew Gromov, Aleksander Dubinin. Last, we suggest to tune on Kranyak-Bertheau, with names as Bathurst-Zagorin and Verhees-Van Projen.
